Xbox One console designer Carl Ledbetter explained the reasoning behind Xbox One's boxy design, saying that the primary goal was to make it "disappear" within your entertainment center.
The large, unassuming black box may appear uninspired at first glance, but according to Ledbetter, a lot of careful thought was put into its design. "We wanted to take every component of what people love about Xbox and amplify it, but also make it disappear into the living room – to stay in the background, robust and reliable," he explained.
"This kind of attention to detail is absolutely a signpost for the new Microsoft,” Ledbetter went on to add. "When you look at what we’re doing in devices, and how we reorganized the company, and acquired Nokia, we’re really going deep to design best-in-class products. We’re starting to get there in a very serious and competitive way."
What do you think of Xbox One's design? Do you like it better than PlayStation 4's angular style? Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of either console's look. But hey, that's just me.
