Nintendo's tablet-centric console has finally outpaced Xbox 360 on the sales front in Japan. Lifetime sales of Wii U have now reached 1,643,095 units in the region, which edges out Xbox 360's modest 1,641,528 figure.
While one can't take this as particularly bad news for Nintendo, the fact that it has taken Wii U this long to outpace the disastrous sales numbers of Xbox 360 is slightly alarming. Then again, I guess any relatively positive sales milestone that Nintendo can point to is a win, even if it's a minor one.
It will be interesting to see how the presence of PlayStation 4 on Japanese store shelves will impact the sales of Wii U. Could Sony's new console steal some of Nintendo's potential customers?
