After already being pummeled by critics at PAX East, The Evil Within has caused public outrage with its gruesome portrayal of violence. Many are demanding an apology from publisher Bethesda, going so far as to form a picket line yesterday in front of its main offices based in Maryland. Why they would pick this game out of all the games to choose from is beyond me…
The protest is being spearheaded by representatives of various advocacy groups, particularly spokesperson Annette Coleman who believes that "Bethesda thinks it's okay to ignore [this issue]."
Rebecca Turner-Smith, a Bethesda marketing representative, has already replied in response that the developer has "immense respect for [its audience] and never meant to insult [them] in any way."
However, Coleman believes that "if Bethesda really wanted to make this right, they should have the main character go behind a fence and then be safe from monsters."
And yes, this is not a news story at all.
