In the latest DLC for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, players have the opportunity to take control of Deathstroke, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn in little LEGO-people form as they try to fight through Belle Reve Penitentiary to put an end to a mysterious enemy. Yes, players can now take control of DC Comics' The Squad.
That's right, the Squad. Not Suicide Squad, just Squad.
The first incarnation of the Suicide Squad appeared in DC Comics around 1959, and has seen a bit of a resurgence as of late with a movie in the works, featuring some high-profile casting, most notably Jared Leto as The Joker, replacing the late Heath Ledger, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in her first live-action appearance.
So why did the deniable-asset supervillian Squad lose the Suicide? Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment hasn't commented on the name-change, but considering that the main game is rated E for Everyone 10+, speculation revolves around removing the idea of “suicidal missions” from a kid-friendly game.
Plus, do LEGO people actually ever die, anyway?
