Konami Ruins Christmas

Remember that Christmas you finally got home from two years of living abroad and went to a big party, then seconds after cracking a joke at uncle Greg's expense you loudly inquired, "Where is the ol' G-man, anyway!"? And everyone got really quiet and awkward, because your aunt Julia divorced Greg a year ago and no one told you? Yeah that was weird.

Now Konami is the one makin' it weird. In an interview with 4Gamer, Konami rants and raves about its upcoming PSP RPG Frontier Gate. "Wowee wow", the guys say in so many words. "Whoopee"! Then the topic moves to that is actually far more important to, you know, like basically all JRPG fans: what of Suikoden? With Final Fantasy apparently down for the count, something like a new Suikoden could be just what the JRPG doctor ordered. But that's when Konami revealed that the Suikoden team hasn't even been working together for years. That band was broken up years ago.

Suikoden Tierkreis, handheld Suikoden spinoff, hit the NIntendo DS to so-so reception in 2008, but the last time a numbered entry was released in the series was some five years ago with Suikoden V on PS2. From the sounds of this overdue revelation, fans need to look elsewhere to get their turn-based RPG fixes. A new game coming about would require either assembling an all new team, or pulling the old guard back together. The latter would of course require all other projects which now have former Suikodenites on board to be finished up. Either way, it looks like Suikoden fans are up the creek without a potion on this one.
