Hopefully by now you've been able to spend some time in Heroes of the Storm . It's this week's hottest game, and a means to celebrate Blizzard's prolific cast of fictional characters while having a good time.
Heroes of the Storm has more than 100 micro-transaction skins covering its entire roster of 37 heroes. I decided to weigh in on what I think are the best and worst skins in the game. Note that this list doesn't include Master Skins, so all of these can be obtained immediately provided you're willing to pay for them.
Top 10 Best And Worst Skins In Heroes of the Storm
Best: Mecha Tassadar
There are only a couple Legendary Skins in the game, and Mecha Tassadar is one of them. This skin turns Tassadar into an awesome machine akin to Transformers . His abilities are given a mechanical theme, his Archon form becomes even more menacing, and he can even turn into a jet when mounting. This skin succeeds at making a big alteration to the hero's visual style.
Best: Psycho Stitches
Stitches is one of the more intimidating characters in the game. His Psycho skin makes him even more frightening by making him look like Jason, equipped with a chainsaw, hockey mask, and blue overalls. You don't want this guy chasing you through The Haunted Mines, let alone eating you with Gorge.
Best: Medic Uther
By default Uther looks a bit silly, short and stout like a dwarf. The Medic Uther skin makes a world of difference, equipping him with StarCraft grade armor and a beautiful hammer. The color variations could be better, but overall it's a great-looking skin.
Best: Roller Derby Nova
Some of the skins in the game just make sense, and Roller Derby Nova is one of them. Nova's roaming style has her moving around the battleground quickly at all times, picking off people before disappearing. Equipping her with rollerskates is a novel idea. It helps that the colorways are great, especially the first one with its vivid colors.
Best: Kaijo Diablo
If you've ever wanted to be Godzilla in a MOBA, this is the closest you'll get. By default Diablo is a fearsome creature, but with this skin he becomes a true monster. With his new mount-less traversal style this mount really pops on the battlefield.
Best: Countess Kerrigan
The best skins make radical changes to the existing model, and Countess Kerrigan is for all intents and purposes a radical change. She looks elegant yet intimidating as she floats around the battleground in this getup.
Best: Skelethur Abathur
It's uncommon to see an Abathur on the battlefield. If you do, and he's wearing this skin, you might think twice about engaging him. That skull face is the sort of thing you see on Halloween.
Best: Ranger-General Sylvanas
Sylvanas' default model is already among the best that the game has to offer. The Ranger-General Skin turns her into a Blood Elf and decorates her armor with extra detail. It's a piece of art.
Best: Infested Tychus
This skin completely alters how Tychus looks and feels. Normally he comes across as a good guy wanting to save the world. Infested Tychus is an evil man that wants nothing more than to destroy anything in his path.
Best: Desert Queen Zagara
You can hardly tell that Zagara is underneath the Desert Queen Zagara skin. The human-like features of her upper body and decorations make her gorgeous, a huge change from her putrid normal form.
Worst: Commander Raynor
I get it, this is supposed to allow Raynor fans to play as him in his daily setup. But really, it's so plain. This is one of the most boring skins in the game.
Worst: Stormpunk Kael\'Thas
As a fan of steampunk fantasy I have to say that this skin looks way too silly to do it justice. A good idea is hidden somewhere underneath this abomination that manages to make Kael'Thas look like a clown.
Worst: Lurkablo Diablo
That Murloc face is going to give me nightmares. If you're a fan of Murlocs, you might as well play as Murky. This thing is atrocious.
Worst: Explorer Lili
Lili doesn't look cool in any of her skins, but this one is particularly lame. Without any altered ability effects or different voice overs, it's not worth the money.
Worst: War World Sgt. Hammer
This is the worst skin in the entire game. The themed abilities are underwhelming, and it looks like a simple recolor of the default skin. There's a reason I've never seen this skin in the over 300 games I've played.
Worst: Azgul\'Dan Azmodan
This skin is supposed to refer to the legendary Gul'dan, the first Warlock in Warcraft lore. He's a remarkably cool character, but you'd never be able to tell that by looking at this hideous skin.
Worst: Warmaster Chen
The biggest problem with Warmaster Chen is the lack of color. The green Monk accents are a nice touch, but everything else has a flat color. The result is this skin makes Chen look like a walking chunk of metal. It's too plain for its price point.
Worst: Flying Monkey Brightwing
Wait, aren't skins supposed to make the default heroes look cooler? If so, why does this exist?
Worst: Lunar Chen
Great job, Chen. You've made the list twice. This time for wearing your Chinese pajamas to a violent battle. At least he'll be agile with such light clothing on.
Worst: Love Bug Anub\'Arak
What this skin needs is more detail. The paint on Anub'Arak's carapace looks washed out in all three colorways. The third one (green) in particular is a mess.
