Titanfall 2 is here and it's a force to be reckoned with. Like its predecessors, it's one heck of a first-person shooter, but it's actually managed to outdo its sibling in some very meaningful ways.
In the gallery below we'll go over how Titanfall 2 has improved upon the formula and not only become a great sequel, but arguably the best shooter of 2016.
10 Ways Titanfall 2 Is Better Than Titanfall
7. Titan Choices
There are now six Titan types, twice that of the previous game. These are more than just choosing between if you want to move fast or be more difficult to take down, each Titan has a very distinct toolkit at its disposal. rn rnThe Titans include:rnrn Ion - Ion uses its energy management abilities to divert power between its three weapons systems. rn Legion - Legion utilizes an assortment of ballistic abilities focusing on defense and control. rn Northstar - Northstar is a master of both flight and precision kills, A sniper who can fly. rn Ronin - Ronin loves getting up close with its samurai vibe, and quick to get in and out tactics. rn Scorch - Scorch manipulates fire as its primary source of defensive and offensive abilities. rn Tone - Tone is about accurately laying waste to enemies both efficiently - and explosively. rn rnMore could be added in upcoming free DLC.
5. There\'s a Campaign
The addition of a campaign is without a doubt the biggest improvement coming to Titanfall 2 . Not only does it actually have a single-player mode, but critics have said it's amazing. You won't be required to have an internet connection to enjoy this game, and that's a great thing.
10. Free DLC
Players will receive free DLC throughout the next few years. This will include maps, game modes, and more. There are no strings attached; there is no season pass, and there are no DLC packages to make extra money off you. This is a huge win for consumers not only when compared to the previous Titanfall , but all games in the modern era.
1. A Faster Titan Timer
As with Titanfall, you will have a timer that counts down until you can spawn a Titan, which can be reduced by performing well in the match. This is a huge element of Titan supporting game modes as you are much more powerful when behind the wheel of a Titan. rn rnThe default timer length will be shorter in this game, allowing you and other players to spawn Titans more frequently. This means that Titan battles are more commonplace, and every player will have multiple chances to make a big play per match.
2. A Better Leveling Experience
The way experience points are issued is different than in the previous game. You will be encouraged to complete Merits, which function similarly to quests or missions in other games. You will be provided objectives that can range in style, asking you to focus on certain parts of the match such as Titan kills or victories. rn rnMerits help to break up the monotony of leveling, making the grind much more varied and eventful.
3. More Maps
Titanfall launched with a fair number of maps. It was the lack of frequent updates and a campaign that really did a number on its longevity. rn rnTitanfall 2 will not only have more maps than its predecessor, but additional maps will be provided free of charge at frequent intervals. This will ensure that the map pool is constantly being updated with something new to learn for newbies and veterans alike.
6. More Game Modes
Titanfall 2 isn't just about going head-to-head against Titans. There are several game modes, some of which don't even support Titans. These are much more varied than what Titanfall offered, even after DLC. Here are five of them:rnrn
rn
Amped Hardpoint - Capture and hold a hardpoint to earn points. Amped Hardpoints give double points.
rn
Bounty Hunt - Kill enemies to earn points. Earn more by 'banking' bonus points at designated points.
rn
Pilots vs. Pilots - Kill enemy pilots. Titanfalls not permitted.
rn
Capture the Flag - Steal the enemy flag and return it to your base while stopping the enemy team from taking your flag!
rn
Attrition - AI soldiers flood the map. Three teams, two players, one AI.
rn
rnMore game modes will be added in free future updates.
9. More equipment options
There is a lot of gear and equipment to tinker with this time around. You'll find more traditional things like Satchels and Arc Grenades, but also interesting mechanics such as Stim, the Gravity Star, and Firestar. There are also four executions that can be utilized in melee mode for some violent climactic moments.
4. Slower Pacing
Although this might sound like a negative, the pacing of Titanfall was in-need of a change. Many players complained that it was too fast, making strategic gameplay difficult during all the chaos, and making the game unenjoyable for player who wanted to relax on the couch and play an FPS.
rn
rnTitanfall 2 slows things down by changing movement speeds as well as the pacing and performance of certain skills, such as wall-running. It's still high speed and frantic, but is more grounded in reality. Some even say it feels like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is a compliment.
8. Varied Weapon Choices
There are way more weapon options this time around. Not only are mods a thing, but there is a fine balance between assault rifles, SMGs, LMGs, shotguns, and more. This is a huge change for the series, as the first Titanfall 's multiplayer was dominated by two assault rifle options. You will be encouraged to experiment with other weapon types, and may find that assault rifles aren't necessarily the best weapons.
