The People Speak: NES Classics And Bullies, Oh My

This week passed with plenty of topics to talk about, none greater than the discontinuation of the NES Classic. Nintendo's decision to cut its manufacturing life short has prompted a lot of discussion as its value on third-party auction sites has more than doubled within a week.

We also covered a story regarding a disabled CS:GO player who was bullied. It was a sad sight, but resulted in him gaining thousands of new followers and over $3,000 in donations.

Before we look at 10 comments from this week we want to tease that the website relaunch is coming very soon, and will include an overhaul of our forum. We can't wait to share more with you.

Article: Like It Or Not, NES Classic's Discontinuation Is A Strategic Move

Comment: I think Nintendo just realized there was more profit to be made by selling their remaining stock on eBay, and this move is to drive up the profit margins further.

Kidding. I'm glad I bought one on Craigslist, I now own something extremely rare. It was worth the $120 I paid before Christmas.

Article: Report: Nintendo Has A SNES Classic Edition In Development

Comment: Holy crap, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World, Mega Man X, etc etc. I would kill for this, if it had the right set of games.

Article: Disabled CS:GO Player Bullied And Kicked From ESEA Match Despite Being A Top Player

Comment: I'm not surprised by this at all. While I'm sure that there are plenty of very nice people that play competitive games online, they seem to be rare. I've played any number of shooters online and I quickly learned that muting everyone is the first thing you need to do. Honestly, some of the crap that these people spew makes you lose faith in humanity.

Article: Official Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition Giveaway!

Comment: I would have to talk about Dark Souls by going all the way back to Demon's Souls on the PS3. I don't remember why I picked this game up in the first place, but I didn't have any clue what I was getting into. The dark, medieval-like setting was incredibly refreshing to play through while playing dress-up with the different armor and weapons further added to that immersion. But what I really enjoyed was how little Demon's Souls explained. Other than the brief "tutorials" on the ground at the Nexus, you had to figure everything out for yourself, and death was almost always involved in your education one way or another.

I will never forget the first interactions I had with the dragons. In the open field littered with dead bodies and treasure…which was optional. Less optional was my death among the towers as the dragon swooped down to scorch me to death. I've never had a gaming moment leave me feel so helpless. How was I supposed to counter this? But even scarier, if this is only the beginning of the game, what else do they have in store for me? This feeling of fear never left throughout my play through of the game, but neither did my excitement for what was to come next (i.e. death). I would sit outside of fog walls for 15 minutes straight, trying to decide if I was ready to take on what laid wait inside (death again).

The vagueness of the story made it a journey you could create into your own. The story was what you wanted it to be, and if you wanted more information, all you had to do was look into the weapons, armor, and colorful npcs throughout the land. You could murder every NPC, some NPCs would murder other NPCs. I was worried I might come back from one of the levels to find someone missing. What happened, who murdered them, should I kill this person because they seem unstable? Holy cow, the world's were so alive. And I can't forget about World Tendency. As confusing as it was, it added more mysterious depth on top of everything else. I avoided going online many times so that my tendency wouldn't be affected.

Alright I'm done. I love the Souls series. Can't wait to see what franchise they come up with next.

Article: A Look At The Infamous Outpost In Elite: Dangerous That Takes 30 Minutes To Fly To

Comment: Ahh, doing things in the background while your spacecraft travels at incredible speeds that still take real world hours due to the vast emptiness of space.

KSP players know this feeling well.

I suggest dual monitors, leave the game on the main screen and throw something on the second. It's how i've managed to get through the entire original DBZ (which is long winded as hell, by the way).

Article: Tell GR: Will The Switch Outsell The PS4 This Generation?

Comment: I hope both do well, I think competition is good. Zelda has been amazing for the Switch, but holy hell has PS4 had an incredible year so far.

Switch has changed the way that I think about video games. All of a sudden, there are tons of games I wish I could play on the go or that I think would be really fun on the go.

Simple things, like releasing gamecube titles on the go I think will actually sell the system well. I kind of look at it in a similar way I did to my Vita, not too many new games (hopefully there will be a lot to come for the switch), but it can be an awesome way to play the classics on the go.

The Switch can outsell the PS4, BUT it has to keep the exclusive system sellers coming. Mario and Zelda in the same year is a hell of a start.

Article: NES Classic Sold 2 Units Per Minute On eBay After Discontinuation, Average Price Of $332

Comment: Seriously. Buy a used NES or a knock-off console on Amazon. I got a "Falcon Twin" for $40 two years ago. Plays SNES and NES games well. Came with two SNES style controllers. Used NES and SNES games typically range from $1-$15 on Amazon. If you want to get major bang for your buck, get a power pack. They are cartidge shaped SSDs with hundreds of games on them. Cost like $60.

Article: My Unforgettable And Treacherous Journey Deep Into The Milky Way In Elite: Dangerous

Comment: My experience with Elite has been pretty awesome. Dynamic to say the least. It started out as a miscommunication and a lack of game knowledge on my end, but it led to being attacked by federal ships. Out of instinct, I returned fire. So began my outlaw status in the universe.

They made me this way. I make sure to tell that to every pilot I leave floating in space without a canopy as their life support slowly dwindles. It isn't my fault. Blame the federation. Good luck, traveler. Thank you for the cargo.

Article: Civilization V Is Now The 3rd Best-Selling PC Exclusive In History With 10 Million Units Sold

Comment: First time I sat down with Civ V, i had just finished an evening shift & didn't start playing til 11:30 at night. I didn't leave my chair til 9:30am. I got a few hours sleep, worked another 8 hour day & sat down for 10 hours straight with the game again. Surprisingly Steam says I've only played 133 hours total, second to the 400 hours racked up in Crusader Kings II. But yeah, Civ V is great. Buy it with the expansions though.

Article: NPD Group: PS4 Outsells Xbox One During March 2017 While Switch Takes Top Spot

Comment: All of this was expected. Nintendo with a new console should have won the month. Sony has destroyed early 2017 with it's Exclusives, so they should have beaten out Microsoft yet again. Microsoft really messed up this generation. And it's not going to get any better.

Mike Nichols says: "We are thrilled with the incredible

response we have received to date for Project Scorpio, and look forward

to sharing more about the Xbox One family of devices in the coming

months."

Sorry Mike, but having the delayed(not getting your system out first) release dates(despite having a more powerful system) is always going to let your competition plan to ruin it. There is no way that Scorpio is going to be under $499. No way! Watch, right before Scorpio launch, the PS4 and PS4 Pro will get price drops and make the New Xbox revision suffer just as the current and past versions of the ONE have.

It's tough to make up ground against Sony when they came out of the gates earlier and can sabatoge your releases/announcements every step of the way with their huge lead. They can make the sacrifices to do so.
