In this “Git Gud” era, where admitting defeat to a video game can lead to you being met with derisive snorts across the internet, throwing your hands up and saying “nope, this game is too difficult for me” leaves you open to no end of criticism. Last week I explained how I was having a particularly difficult time with Cuphead, Studio MDHR’s run-and-gun boss battle marathon, and now we want to know which games you have deemed too difficult to complete over the years.
While there have been many games in recent years that are notorious for their high difficulty level — the Dark Souls series, Nioh and The Long Dark to name but a few — there are plenty more over the years that have caused players across the globe to throw their controller across the room, shout expletives at the TV or simply turn off their console and vow to never touch them again. From the nigh-on impossible side-scrolling shooters of the ’80s through to brutal platformers like Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Battletoads, there have been plenty of games that have led to players throwing in the towel. But which ones have struck a particularly frustrating chord with you?
