Tell GR: What Are Your Thoughts on Loot Boxes?

The biggest topic of discussion in the gaming industry over the past couple of weeks has been loot boxes. Though they’ve been inserted into mobile games for years now, their sudden prevalence in full price, $60 games has understandably caused many to grow concerned, with their appearance as potentially pay-to-win microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2 potentially being the straw that broke the camel’s back.

While many accept loot boxes in the likes of Overwatch, where they solely consist of cosmetic items, it’s clear that this complacency has led to other publishers enforcing them in more pernicious ways. Now loot boxes afford players in-game advantages, allowing them to effectively pay to storm ahead of their competition, with this trend showing no signs of slowing down.

However, while pretty much everyone can agree that paid shortcuts in video games isn’t exactly an ideal situation, some enjoy the concept of loot boxes and would like them to stay minus the items that offer in-game advantages. With that being said, we want to know what YOU think about loot boxes: should they continue to remain in video games, as long as they only feature cosmetic items? Should they be removed from video games altogether? Or are you one of the few who don’t mind their inclusion whatsoever, and would happily pay out extra cash for items that’ll help you triumph over other players? Let us know in the comments section below, and the best responses will be featured in this Friday’s edition of The People Speak.
