There’s No Companion App for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Every year brings a new Assassin's Creed game, and along with it a mobile app. Ubisoft plans to buck the trend this year though, as Assassin's Creed Syndicate will not have a companion app.

A company spokesperson confirmed the news to Eurogamer and stated, "For Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the team wanted to focus all their efforts on the core experience." It's a notable shift from past games in the series, which leaned heavily into the mobile app for extra content.

Assassin's Creed Unity included a series of locked chests and extra costumes that could only be accessed with the companion app. It required numerous hours of progression to even see the content and stood out as one of the more annoying aspects of the game.

I understand the urge to release some kind of app to enhance an overall game experience, but it almost always proves intrusive and detracts from the game. Now Ubisoft can simply focus on making Assassin's Creed Syndicate a return to form for the series.
