Concerned Ape has fully detailed what will be included in Stardew Valley's long awaited v1.1 update, which is now set to go live on Monday the 3rd. As expected, it's a significant update that addresses many concerns among players, adds new functionality, and in general adds a wealth of additional playability to the game.
You can read the patch notes in their entirety here. Below we will go over the five core highlights of the patch.
1. Unique areas for spouses; divorce added
Depending on who you marry, your spouse will roam a special area on your farm performing tasks related to his or her interests. For example, Maru will work on a gadget, while Sam will perform skateboard tricks. In addition to this, Shane and Emily can now be married. As such, marriage just became a much more attractive option.
If you happen to fall out of love with your spouse, a new divorce option will be available within your Farmhouse. Your ex-wife or ex-husband will treat you differently after divorce, although you'll be able to continue raising your children.
This addition was widely requested by players who felt as though marriage destroyed the personality and fun of marriage candidates.
2. New buildings
Robin will offer new building options, providing additional farm customization. This will include a Shed and Mill. The Shed can be used to house what you would like, while the Mill specializes in producing flour and sugar.
There will also be new buildings that the Wizard can construct, although they will require expensive materials. These include the Junimo Hut, Water Obelisk, and more.
With these new options you will have new options for getting around the world and making money.
3. Farm map options
Moving forward, when you start a new game you will have a choice between five farm maps. These have various layouts, including Riverlands, Forest, Hill-Top, and Wilderness. Each will offer a unique strength that you can take advantage of. For example, the Riverlands will have lots of water, which is perfect for fishing. Meanwhile, the Hill-Tops are great for mining.
These distinct farm maps will even have unique decorations within the house, strongly affecting the general "vibe" of the game experience.
4. New Farmhouse upgrade
There will be a new upgrade available which will add a Cellar to your Farmhouse. In the Cellar you can place alcohol or cheese into casks to ferment them, eventually creating valuable alcoholic goods. This upgrade will be expensive, but will offer a highly profitable new way to make cash.
It's worth noting that fruit trees will now be capable of producing higher quality fruit that can be perfect for fermentation. You will even be able to place Honey in Kegs to make Mead.
5. New items
There are an array of new items. There's the new highly profitable Coffee crop, which will be available in Spring and Summer. There will be a ton of new furniture items, as well as wallpaper and flooring.
There will also be a new item added called the Return Scepter that you can save up for. It will be available for the shocking price of 2,000,000g, but it will be worth it to any rich players as it provides instant warp back to the farm from any location.
