Last month, I went over a list of things about the Nintendo Switch that shouldn't have you panicking just yet. One of those was the Online services, which, while free for a several-month-long trial period, would become a paid service in Fall of 2017. Although this is a similar model to PlayStation and Xbox online services, the Nintendo Switch's offering of one free NES game per month (that you could only use for that month, mind you), came across as a slap in the face to many games once excited for the console.
But the one X factor was the price. Priced at the full $50-$60 per year, a'la PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold, the Nintendo Switch's online service would essentially be internet superhighway robbery. Fortunately for both us and Nintendo, a new report has that price at a much more reasonable level of somewhere around $20.
A report from Serkan Toto, CEO of a Japan-based video game consultant agency, says the word from the top (Nintendo's President, no less) is that Nintendo Switch's online service will cost $17.50 to $26.50 per year, less than half the cost of what you can expect to pay on the PS4 or Xbox One.
This is absolutely the right move for Nintendo, and it should assuage any concerns people may have had about the services, with even the most expensive package costing per month what is less than the average cost of one cup of coffee.
