It's been clear for a while Persona 5 would perform well sales-wise, and Atlus proved it last week when it revealed that total worldwide shipments of the game have reached a whopping 1.5 million. Since then, we've learned that UK sales played a large hand in that success, with the game topping the "All Formats" chart ahead of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Lego Worlds, which placed second and third respectively.
The data comes via Ukie, in a post detailing both the top UK sales performers last week as well as a handful of noteworthy trends. Regarding Persona 5 and the performance of JRPGs in the UK in general, not since Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has a JRPG debuted at number one. You may be wondering why exactly Final Fantasy XV was unable to do the same, and the answer comes down to unfortunate timing; it had to compete with FIFA 17, and thus debuted at number two.
Elsewhere on the list is Mass Effect: Andromeda at number five, Breath of the Wild at seven, and Horizon Zero Dawn at twelve, with Lego City Undercover returning to sales relevance thanks to its debut on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, having released on Wii U previously. Regardless of the rest of the list, it's clear Persona 5's chart-topper debut is a big score for Atlus, and bodes well for the green light of an assumed P6 sometime down the road. Not that there was ever any doubt.
