Overwatch to Have Anniversary Event, Free Weekend, Game of the Year Edition

Overwatch has had quite the first year of a video game, racking up more than a billion dollars and 30 million players over the course of these twelve months, releasing three new heroes, new game types and continually expanding as more and more players ravenously seek to push the payload (or don't, depending on who you talk to).

And now, Blizzard is rightfully spiking the football, posting a celebratory video today announcing an anniversary event from May 23 to June 12. Further details on this event are forthcoming, but that's not all Overwatch has in store for its first birthday celebration.

Alongside this event, Overwatch will have a free weekend from May 26 to May 29th, and all progress players make will carry over if they decide to purchase the game thereafter.

Perhaps most importantly is the announcement by Blizzard of an Overwatch Game of the Year Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC. This includes 10 loot boxes, all the skins included in the origins edition, including Blackwatch Reyes for Reaper, Strike-Commander Morrison for Soldier 76, Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Pharah, and Slipstream Tracer.

The Game of the Year Edition will also grant access to the Tracer hero in Heroes of the Storm, the Baby Winston Pet in World of Warcraft, Mercy's Wings in Diablo III as well as portraits and card backs for StarCraft II and Hearthstone.

We will have more coverage of the Overwatch anniversary event as more details come to light.
