EA Motive Working on an Open World Action Game

EA Motive‘s next action IP is set to take place in an open world, if a new job listing from the company is anything to go by.

A job listing posted by EA Motive states that the developer “aims to redefine action games and bring the highest quality innovative experiences to players.” The studio wants a “creative storyteller to become a key part of defining the narrative identity of an ambitious new open world IP.”

In the list of areas in which Motive wants applicants to have experience in, the posting reads: “Understanding the challenges of creating narrative content for an open world experience.”

EA Motive was working alongside Visceral Games on its now-canceled Star Wars project before the Dead Space creator was shut down. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen has since stated (via GamesIndustry.biz) that “its team in Montreal” is working on a “brand new action franchise,” pointing towards the Canadian Motive studio and its next project.

When Visceral’s single-player Star Wars game was shut down, EA announced that the project would continue under a “development team from across EA Worldwide Studios,” including Motive’s fellow Canadian developer EA Vancouver. EA stated that EA Vancouver had already been working on the project alongside Motive and Visceral Games, though Motive doesn’t appear to be attached to the new Star Wars project.

Motive was previously responsible for the single-player Star Wars Battlefront 2 story, with BioWare Montreal having been merged into the studio following the underwhelming sales of Mass Effect Andromeda. Little is known about the developer’s new action franchise, aside from Jorgensen stating that EA was looking to make strong strides into the action genre as “that’s the largest sector in gaming” and “there’s a huge opportunity there.”
