Eternal Darkness Sequel Was In Development At Silicon Knights

Remember Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem? Man, did I love that game. You'll be hard pressed to find a Nintendo GameCube fanatic who didn't fall head-over-heels for Silicon Knights' incredibly atmospheric horror title.

As such, fans have been waiting quite a while for news of a sequel, but ever since the days of end of the GameCube era, the studio behind Eternal Darkness has been responsible for some less than stellar experiences. Too Human anyone? At this point, do we even want a sequel from that team?

According to a report from Kotaku, that very game was actually in development at the same time work was being done on X-Men Destiny. "They were working on an Eternal Darkness 2 demo that they could take to publishers. While I was there, they were even siphoning off staff from my [XMD] team to work on it," a former employee told the outlet.

Another source went on to add that what the studio was putting together didn't even look all that great, saying that "bad tech, combined with a team composed of people who had not shipped a title since Metal Gear… I can't explain why things went so poorly for them [except that] a lot of key people responsible for the original Eternal Darkness are long gone."

So it sounds to me like even if we were to get a sequel at this point, it likely wouldn't even be worth playing. Now if you would excuse, the streams of tears running down my face are ruining my keyboard.
