Omega Labyrinth Z Western Release Cancelled

Sony Blocks Omega Labyrinth Z Western Release

Omega Labyrinth Z won’t be making it to the west as publisher PQube has announced in a statement that they’ve cancelled any plans of bringing the title to North America and Europe citing compliance with the “platform holder.” The game was planned to be released on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in the west so it might be safe to say that Sony was the one who finally decided to block the game’s release.

The company’s statement reads:

“PQube strives to release Japanese content for its fans as close to the source material as possible. In the case of Omega Labyrinth Z, while PQube has worked with all relevant age rating bodies in their respective territories, PQube must respectfully comply with the wishes of the platform holder and have therefore withdrawn any future plans for Omega Labyrinth Z’s European and North American release on PS4 and PS Vita.”

Omega Labyrinth Z was able to attain an ESRB Mature rating in North America in May but it looks like that wasn’t enough for Sony to continue with the game’s release. It was also previously banned for release in several countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, in spite getting a PEGI 18 rating for Europe.

Speculation about the fate of the game’s western release hit its peak in late May when it disappeared from PQube’s and retailer Play-Asia’s websites last May. Play-Asia also began cancelling previous orders for the game. When asked on Twitter regarding the game’s removal, PQube’s Twitter account only responded by saying that they aren’t able to announce anything until they are able to, specifically saying their hands were tied. Today’s statement confirms those speculations.

The game is the sequel to Omega Labyrinth which was released for the PS Vita in Japan in 2015. The game is a roguelike dungeon crawler RPG that stars a group of highschool girls and is known for its copious amounts of fanservice, which is probably why the game was banned in several territories and is now no longer coming to the west.

Omega Labyrinth Z was originally released in Japan for the PS4 and PS Vita back in July 6, 2017. While the title is effectively cancelled in the west, there’s still a chance that it will release in other regions such as Southeast Asia through another publisher such as EastAsiaSoft.
