Black Ops 4 Blackout Mode Gameplay Teased, Battle Royale First-Look

After its reveal in May, the Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout mode has been a complete mystery. Developer Treyarch hasn’t shared much of how they will marry Call of Duty style gunplay with the battle royale craze currently sweeping the industry. In a recent trailer detailing the multiplayer beta, Treyarch quickly teased the Black Ops 4 Blackout mode along with reiterating that a beta for that battle royale mode will come out at some point in September.

The clip at the end of the beta trailer shows squads riding around in different vehicles, which is new for Call of Duty multiplayer in general. ATVs, helicopters, and boats all show up in the trailer, with the latter only seen in a few “glitched” frames. These teases are easier to see when slowed down, which is possible on YouTube’s video player on desktop and the mobile app.

Although, some of the short glimpses are hard to make out, even when slowed down. However, some look awfully similar to past missions in other Call of Duty games. This makes sense, given that Treyarch did say at the reveal event in May that the mode will feature a decade of Black Ops history and will “be unique in a way only Black Ops could do.”

We still don’t how many people will be on one map nor much of anything else. Treyarch has been secretive about this mode most likely because of it being new territory for the franchise. They only have just over a month before the beta hits, which gives them some time to iron out the details.

Speaking of betas, the main goal of this trailer was to reiterate that the multiplayer beta is coming to the PS4 first on August 3 at 10 am PT. It will hit Xbox One on August 10 at 10 am PT and the PC on August 11. The beta will include six maps, ten specialists, six modes, scoresteaks, and new weapons and equipment.
