It’s Friday in Destiny 2, and that means the creepy trader Xur is back once again to sell us his wares. However, the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion is now out, and with it there are changes to Xur’s goods. For the first time, are the Destiny 2 Three of Coins and Fated Engram missing? That’s certainly a big change, but it seems to be true. So why have the Three of Coins and Fated Engrams been removed?
Why are Destiny 2 Three of Coins and Fated Engram Missing?
Bungie announced on their forums that as of update 2.0.0, as part of the Forsaken expansion, the Three of Coins consumable would not be sold by Xur. They said that it will be able to be dismantled for Legendary Shards after the launch of Forsaken, but otherwise it would not be available for the foreseeable future. No real reason was given for the consumable’s removal, but it’s probably tied to the removal of new Exotic Engrams.
Fated Engrams, on the other hand, are a little more complicated. Bungie are indeed changing how Xur sells them after the launch of Forsaken, in that he will not be selling any Exotics, just Year 1 Engrams. However, for this week at least, it looks like he’s not selling any Engrams at all. Once again, Bungie has not communicated their reasons for cutting them. It’s all a little frustrating.
What are the Three of Coins and Fated Engrams?
Three of Coins is a one-time-use consumable, only usually sold by Xur, that increases the chance of earning an Exotic Engram for a few hours. Fated Engrams are also only available from Xur, and they guarantee that players will get an Exotic item they don’t have, once these Engrams are decrypted. The Engrams are usually extremely expensive, costing 97 Legendary Shards. With Bungie changing how Xur sells them, once he starts doing so again, they may not be quite as attractive for that price.
We can probably assume at least that Fated Engrams will return next week, but Three of Coins will probably stay removed for now.
