Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath Nintendo Switch Announced, Will Be Playable at EGX 2018

Oddworld Inhabitants has announced that an Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath Nintendo Switch version will be coming soon. This announcement arrives ahead of the highly-anticipated EGX 2018 in Birmingham, UK, next week, where the new Nintendo Switch version of the game will be made playable for the first time ever. The reason why this surprise was revealed in commemoration of National Video Games Day which falls today on September 12, 2018.

The official Oddworld Twitter account revealed the unexpected news earlier today. Besides revealing that Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath will be playable at EGX 2018 next week, no official release date or expected release window has been announced. However, the fact that the game will already be playable soon could indicate that a release date would not be far off.

Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath is an action-adventure game originally developed by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by EA in 2005. That was over a whopping 13 years ago. Since then, the game has been released on the Xbox, PC, PS3, PS Vita, Android, iOS, and more. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be its debut in the current generation of gaming.

It was notable and memorable for featuring “live ammunition.” These live ammunition made up of living animals and insects, which comes with different effects against different enemies. Unfortunately, Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath was the last mainline title in the franchise. The most recent Oddworld game was 2014’s Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty!, which was only a remake of the very first game, 1997’s Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee.

In the replies beneath the Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath Nintendo Switch post, Oddworld Inhabitants can be seen reassuring gamers asking about the franchise’s next installment, Oddworld Soulstorm. The developer confirms that the highly-anticipated title is still in development and that it will share more information as soon as possible. Perhaps we will learn more about it at EGX 2018 next week.
