Wolfenstein 3 release date speculation

When will Wolfenstein 3 get a release date?

With the silence around the franchise, fans are wondering when and if we’ll hear the Wolfenstein 3 release date. The finale to the latest series of BJ Blazkowicz’s adventures might still be far away, but hearing anything would be better than nothing. So, will we see an end to MachineGames’ version of Wolfenstein?

When is the Wolfenstein 3 Release Date?

Wolfenstein 3 speculation release date

In a 2018 interview, Pete Hines, the vice president of Bethesda Softworks in charge of public relations and marketing, confirmed that Wolfenstein 3 is going to happen. He noted that MachineGames did say “on stage that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing” but that “Absolutely we’re making a Wolfenstein 3.”

This begs the question of when is the Wolfenstein 3 release date. Well, we can speculate roughly when it will be coming out based on the previous games in the franchise. Wolfenstein: The New Order came out in 2014, with its expansion Wolfenstein: The Old Blood coming out a year later. The full sequel, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, came out three years after the original in 2017, and the smaller spin-off, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, released in 2019.

From this, we would have guessed that the Wolfenstein 3 release date will be sometime in 2021 or 2022. This is because of the precedent in the series of having one expansion come out and then two years later, a full sequel coming out. However, lower than anticipated sales of The New Colossus and the poor reception of Youngblood might have led to Bethesda shelving the franchise for a while. Between poor sales, COVID-19, and the sale of Bethseda to Microsoft, it’s no wonder we haven’t heard anything about the franchise in a while. Additionally, Youngblood jumped the shark with a massive time skip, so the series is narratively a mess right now.
