Wolfenstein 2 has released to rave reviews, but many gamers want to know if about whether it’s multiplayer or not. Other fans are wondering how the quests are set up this time around. Is Wolfenstein 2 open world now, or do the levels play like Doom and The New Order? We’ve got the answers to these two hot questions below.
Is Wolfenstein 2 Multiplayer?
Most shooters these days have at least some sort of online multiplayer component, even if they’re story-driven like Wolfenstein. The Wolfenstein series isn’t known for its multiplayer, but some may remember Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the standalone multiplayer expansion pack for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, fondly.

Unfortunately for multiplayer fans, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus doesn’t have any online components. The sole focus of the game is on the single-player experience. However, Call of Duty: WW2 is coming out soon, so you only have a bit to wait if you want to kill Nazis with friends.
Is Wolfenstein 2 Open World?
It seems like every franchise is switching over to an open world design, and Wolfenstein is no exception. However, if you’re expecting Grand Theft Auto amounts of freedom here, you’ll be disappointed. The New Colossus just dips its toes in a more open level design.
In between missions in Wolfenstein 2, you return to the Eva’s Hammer U-Boat which serves as your hub. When you’re here, you get to take part in some more optional activities, like side missions and a shooting range. Later on, in the game, you get the choice to take on assassinations that you can complete in any order, which gives you a bit more freedom.
The levels themselves seem more open compared to The New Order too. Many missions have multiple routes to your objective, which allows for more varied gameplay. You can even feasibly try to go stealth for the whole game, though you’re going to be in for a frustrating time. At its base though, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a linear game, and no matter how you choose to play you’re going to reach the same conclusion and play the main missions in a specific order.
