Minecraft Dungeons to Release in 2019

Mojang has decided to breathe some new life into its highly successful Minecraft franchise by announcing the upcoming Minecraft dungeon-crawler spin-off. Titled Minecraft Dungeons, it’s scheduled for release on the PC in 2019 and was revealed at Minecon recently. It looks to be moving away from the main game’s focus on building things and chopping down other things, instead providing what has been touted as a “classic dungeon crawler” experience for players.

This isn’t the first spin-off title for the Minecraft universe by any means, but it’s the first that incorporates dungeon crawling. The announcement trailer for the game seems to show a bunch of characters descending in an elevator shaft and going into a sinisterly-lit dungeon environment replete with creepy enemies and rare items galore. It looks like you venture into these environments as part of a multiplayer group at this stage, but there will also be the option of doing things solo if you prefer being a lone wolf. The largest amount of people that can be in a party at any one time seems to be five at the moment, but it’s early days yet so don’t be surprised if that changes before the game is released.

At this point, we’re not entirely sure when in 2019 this game is going to be released, but it sure looks like a lot of fun and a breath of fresh air for Minecraft aficionados who are looking for something a little more combat-heavy to sink their teeth into. This will be a PC release, so if the mods that are currently out for Mojang’s flagship game are anything to go by, we can probably expect some spectacular collaborations between the community and the company on new and exciting things to do once Minecraft Dungeons is available to everyone. Anyone else here excited for a Battle Royale mod already?
