Although massively popular, Minecraft has yet to be ported to current-gen systems, but a recent age rating suggests the sandbox game may be coming to Xbox Series X|S at some point.
No word on a PS5 port, though
As spotted by journalist Andrew Marmo, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (or ESRB for short) has added a rating summary for Minecraft under the Xbox Series platform.
This suggests that the Mojang/Microsoft game is finally coming to the console, though this is only a rumor at this stage. The ESRB rates the game as Everyone 10+ for “fantasy violence,” and describes Minecraft as an “adventure game in which players explore and mine/harvest cube-shaped materials.”
This is also not the first time the game has received an age rating for Xbox Series. In August, Marmo also noted that Germany’s USK had rated the sandbox title, which again points to a current-gen upgrade.
So far there’s been no official word on whether Minecraft is coming to Series X|S, so it’s best to take any information at face value.
Interestingly, there doesn’t appear to be any emerging story on whether the game will be coming to PS5 or not. Given that Microsoft owns Minecraft, some may assume – if the rumor is true – that Xbox may want to make a modern port of the game exclusive to its own system. However, this is just speculation again on our part.
As one of the most successful video games of all time, it’s surprising that Minecraft hasn’t been re-released for modern consoles. With any luck, there’ll be official confirmation on whether it’s coming to Xbox Series, but it sounds like it could be.
