Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode Rumor Resurfaces

A Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode could be in development. Reports have claimed that rumors are more concrete than first imagined due to a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Canadian developer Digital Scapes. The duo have entered a partnership that will allow CD Projekt Red to use Digital Scapes’ technology to enhance how Cyberpunk 2077 plays. However, many are viewing this partnership as a way for Cyberpunk 2077 to eventually have a multiplayer mode too.

One report from VG247 has claimed that the collaboration is particularly focused on Cyberpunk 2077‘s development. With Digital Scapes having worked on multiplayer modes for other games, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that they are working on one for CD Projekt Red’s much-hyped title. Digital Scapes worked with another Polish studio – Techland – on Dying Light‘s Be the Zombie PvP mode, as well as other multiplayer elements. Digital Scapes describes its aim as being a specialist in ‘AAA multiplayer console and PC game development’ in particular, so a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer option could be on the cards.

CD Projekt Red have already stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will not ship with a multiplayer mode bolted onto it. The game is a single-player RPG with elements of multiplayer scattered about. However, CD Projekt Red’s quest designer Patrick Mills told Eurogamer in June that the team was researching a possible Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer option, without confirming that one existed.

“We have multiplayer in R&D, but the game we’re shipping to you, the game you’re going to buy is the single-player experience,” Mills revealed. “That’s really what we’re concentrating on now, the single-player RPG experience. That’s what we want to nail down before we start looking at any of these other things.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is due to land at some point in 2019, according to reports, and will be available to buy on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 when it does launch.
