A rumored casting call for a new Naughty Dog game has supposedly been leaked. The secretive new project from Naughty Dog could be a new IP, or a sequel to Uncharted or The Last of Us. A Twitter user posted several details about the casting call online.
Twitter user Daniel R — who has been known to (accurately) report on rumors like this in the past — posted two tweets regarding the casting. The first said that Naughty Dog is “working on a new secret project which they are currently casting for in Los Angeles. The second tweet had a lot more information to work with.
“The lead of the game (or at least one of the leads) they are casting for is “A Black/African American male. 40’s to 60’s, short to medium length hair with a body type similar to those in the reference images below. Strong but not chiseled.” They gave this photo for reference;”
It’s not clear whether the game will have multiple leads, although all of Naughty Dog’s games since Jak and Daxter have had multiple lead characters. The reference photo that Daniel R attached is of actor Chad Coleman in his portrayal of Tyreese on AMC’s The Walking Dead. The Naughty Dog casting has fans speculating wildly about the game.
The purported new Naughty Dog game is likely early in development. The Sony-owned developer has been known to break off small teams to work on pre-production for new games while winding down their current projects. The Last of Us Part II has no current release date, although that game is rumored to be coming in 2019. That game was revealed at PSX 2016, a little over half a year from the release of Uncharted 4 and alongside 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. A lengthy gameplay trailer was showcased at E3 2018 for The Last of Us Part II, but Naughty Dog has been silent since.
The rumored new Naughty Dog game could be in development for Sony’s next-gen console. The existence of a “PlayStation 5” was confirmed by Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida earlier this week. A Naughty Dog title to accompany the console’s launch would be great for the company. Fans have been clamoring for a “Savage Starlight” game from Naughty Dog since The Last of Us released. Savage Starlight is an in-universe sci-fi comic series.
