Currently sitting pretty at the number three spot on Steam’s Top Sellers list, Arrowhead’s third-person shooter Helldivers has been a triumph. It’s been a pretty big hit globally since releasing in February, including setting the UK gaming charts ablaze.
For two months running
According to a recent report from GamesIndustry.biz – citing data from GSD – Helldivers 2 was the best-selling video game across the UK market for March. This is the second month in a row in which the game has achieved this.
The report goes on to say that it’s trending ahead of Insomniac Games‘ Spider-Man 2, which was another smash hit for publisher Sony back when it was released last year.
At the time of writing, the Helldivers follow-up has peaked at over 450,000 concurrent players on PC, according to the latest data from SteamDB, with more than 345,000 people playing in the last 24 hours.
Developer Arrowhead Game Studios recently rolled out the latest update for the game. The patch for version 01.000.200 not only made some quality-of-life improvements, as well as fixing some bugs, it also increased the level cap, taking it from Level 50 to Level 150.
Overall, it looks as though Helldivers 2 has been testing the mettle of some of gaming’s most anticipated titles. The UK GSD chart for the previous month shows the game is leading, with the likes of EA Sports FC 24 and Dragon’s Dogma 2 trailing behind in second and third place, respectively.
It’s hard to know how long this trend will continue, but the somewhat indie game is more than proving its worth in a cutthroat industry of big names that are vying for supremacy.
