A new Zelda game is something that fans of the pointy-eared protagonist are always looking forward to and we may be getting a new one before we know it. A Game Informer editor has let slip that we might not have to wait that long for the next title in Nintendo’s fantasy franchise.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has done pretty well for Nintendo. Roughly 9 out of 10 Nintendo Switch owners also own a copy of the latest game in the series. It’s inevitable, then, that we’ll be getting a sequel at some point, but the question of when is something we don’t yet know.
However, an editor over at Game Informer has recently stated that we might not have to wait that long. The conversation in question happened during a recent episode of The Game Informer Show, a podcast where staffers from the magazine talk about video games and the like.
Leading up to the statement was a question about a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch bundle. This discussion segued to the panelists talking about the potential for a new Zelda game. The statement regarding a new Zelda game takes place at 1:03:01 in the below video, about halfway through The Game Informer Show Episode 425.
Imran Khan: I was just thinking what I should say about that. Next Zelda will probably be sooner than we think.
Ben Hanson: What is this, Imran? You know stuff?
Imran Khan: I… I will talk to you guys off-camera about stuff.
Ben Hanson then speculates that the new Zelda game will be coming from the team behind The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. Mr. Khan reacts to that statement by saying, “Not exactly”.
Recent job openings at Nintendo have already got the rumor mill running about what’s next for The Legend of Zelda and these recent comments might have just added fuel to the fire. It seems that Imran Khan knows something we don’t about the next The Legend of Zelda game and it won’t be coming from the people behind Triforce Heroes. If it’s half as good as Breath of the Wild, we’re sure to be in for a treat.
