Forever Entertainment announced that Panzer Dragoon Remake and Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei Remake are in development. Sega and Forever Entertainment announced the partnership today, and plan to update the Panzer Dragoon games for future release.
Panzer Dragoon Remake is expected to release before the end of 2019. The original Panzer Dragoon released on the Sega Saturn in 1995, and garnered praise from critics and players. The rail shooter sees players control a dragon rider and dragon as they fly across several vast levels fighting enemies. The game was revolutionary for its time, with impressive 3D visuals and unique gameplay. The remake is expected to completely overhaul the visuals and make several gameplay modifications to bring it more in line with more modern games.
Less information was given about the Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei remake, although it will likely get a similar treatment. However, no date was given for Zwei‘s release. It will almost assuredly get overhauled graphics, and quality of life changes similar to the first title in the series. Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei released in 1996, releasing just a year after the original. In a press release, Forever Entertainment said that materials for the game will be presented in the coming months.
The acclaimed Panzer Dragoon Saga, an RPG in the series, was not mentioned in the press release. Fans of Saga likely won’t see the game be re-released anytime soon, as Sega apparently lost the game’s source code. 2002’s Panzer Dragoon Orta, released on the original Xbox was a successor to Zwei. Another well-received rail-shooter, Orta is currently playable through backwards compatibility on the Xbox One.
Forever Entertainment is a Polish video game publisher and developer. It is currently developing the Fear Effect remake, and released Fear Effect Sedna with Square Enix in March. No platforms were announced for the Panzer Dragoon remakes. Expect more info regarding the remakes in the coming months.
