The Mortal Royale trailer is promising epic fantasy battles with 1,000 players on the field, and you’ll be able to see it for yourself today.
Mortal Royale is a battle royale game with a fantasy setting—you’ll certainly see your fair share of swords, bows, and wizards in this game. From what we can gather, it appears to be based on the developer’s free-to-play RPG Mortal Online in some fashion. Steam Charts pegs their free-to-play MMO at just under 80 people playing, so it seems that developer Star Vault AB is keen on re-tooling what they have into something that can capitalize on the success of the battle royale craze.
In the opening moments of the Mortal Royale trailer, we see the camera pan through a map with dozens of soldiers frozen in intense melee battle. The camera goes through some woods before emerging in a field with easily a hundred warriors, archers, and mages fighting it out in an epic contest of melee and magic. We then see a knight atop a pile of corpses coming up closer to the camera; he swings his sword and brings the trailer to a close.
You’re probably not going to be pulling off any 360 no-scopes in this title; players will be largely engaging in melee and close-quarters combat. That’s not to say that there isn’t any ranged combat in the game, as the trailer does show us a fair few archers and mages. Mounted combat seems to be another element of gameplay that should mix things up nicely. Mortal Royale is set to be a free-to-play experience with everything that entails. The game’s alpha will at least be relying on character customization in its early days; a Character Customization Pack is available for $10.99 or your regional equivalent. The game is also currently available with a 10% launch discount, so now’s a good time to buy if it appeals to you.
Mortal Royale is currently in Steam Early Access and is expected to remain in that state until around the first quarter of 2019. If the Mortal Royale trailer has you hyped to check out this fantasy battle royale experience, you can hop into the game right now on Steam completely for free.
