The Resident Evil 2 remake is out in just over a week, on January 25, and you may have already got a taste of it thanks to the one-shot demo that Capcom released. It seems to be shaping up to have a fantastic and terrifying single-player campaign, but what about multiplayer? Is there Resident Evil 2 remake multiplayer? How about online or split-screen co-op? How about separate multiplayer modes? We’ve got the answers.
Is there Resident Evil 2 remake multiplayer or campaign co-op?
While we know for sure that the Resident Evil 2 remake will have a decent-sized single-player campaign, and if the demo is any indication it will be a lot of fun, but what about multiplayer? Is there any sort of multiplayer or co-op, like Resident Evil 5 or the most recent third-person game in the series, Resident Evil Revelations 2?
Unfortunately, by all indication we have, the Resident Evil 2 remake will be an entirely single-player affair, and the campaign is not playable in online or split-screen co-op. There may be two main characters, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, but they stay entirely separate for the length of the campaign. Additionally, the game’s product page on Steam only lists single-player, with no online components.
Will there be Resident Evil 2 remake Raid or The Mercenaries modes?
So there probably isn’t any sort of campaign co-op, but what about a separate gameplay mode with multiplayer or co-op included, like Raid mode or The Mercenaries from Resident Evil 4 and 5? It’s possible the game will have special unlockable modes, as the original Resident Evil 2 did, such as “Extreme Battle,” but all of those modes were single-player. Sadly, there is no indication that the Resident Evil 2 remake will be any different. By the looks of things, the remake will be an entirely single-player affair, just like the original. You’ll have to stick with Revelations 2 or Resident Evil 5 if that’s what you’re after.
