The new Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine is a curious beast. Presented as a Xur bounty, it tasks you with collecting Fallen Samples, Cabal Samples, and Taken Samples, along with an EDZ Strike called Lake of Shadows. Below, we’ll show you the where to find Cabal Samples, Fallen Samples location, and the best place to get find Taken on the EDZ and take their, uhh, Taken Samples. Alongside that, we’ll outline The World Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine rewards and loot too.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Tasks
There’s four things you need to do before heading back to Xur, and they’re all located on the EDZ.
The World Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine tasks are as follows:
- Complete the Lake of Shadows Strike
- Collect 9 Cabal Samples
- Collect 9 Fallen Samples
- Collect 9 Taken Samples
To collect the Samples, you’ll need to grind and kill plenty of enemies. It’s not an exact science, but each Race drops Samples at random intervals upon dying. Check out some of the best Sample locations below.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Fallen Samples location
Head to Trostland in the EDZ and hang around the church. You’ll be tripping over Fallen before long.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Cabal Samples location
Cabal can be found all over the EDZ, but you’d be best suited to checking out the Sunken Isles landing zone first. The place is full of ’em.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Taken Samples location
If you want Taken Samples, you’re going to need to simply complete the Lake of Shadows Strike a maximum of twice. Along the way, you’ll encounter several Taken and you’ll naturally get the 9 Taken Samples needed to complete this part of the Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine leg. Simples.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Lake of Shadows Strike
You’ll find the Lake of Shadows Strike location in the EDZ on Earth. Specifically, it’s in the bottom right of your map, by The Reservoir. The Strike is simple enough, with a boss battle of Grank, The Conqueror at its end. Defeat him to complete the Strike. A Power Level of 200 is recommended, however, for those foolhardy newbies willing to brave the Taken onslaught.
Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine | Rewards
Once you done all that (and you’ve already spoken to The Drifter on The Tower), then you can claim your Invitation of the Nine reward for completing The World. What is it? Well, head to the Gambit playlist and start Mystery and Potential (which is the tiny little green dot near the top of the screen) and you’ll find out. I daren’t spoil it here, but it’s a lore-heavy cutscene, plus a Legendary item to boot.
