Mortal Kombat 11 Kitana has been confirmed to be headed to the popular fighting game in a new TV spot. A live-action sequence builds up to the fast-paced introduction to Kitana.
Kitana is a 10,000-year-old princess of Edenia. The character previously believed she was the daughter of Shao Khan and fought under him as a fierce servant. Upon learning the truth, Kitana turned against Shao Khan before dying in battle. She was resurrected as an evil form of her previous self. Kitana now presides over the Netherrealm alongside Liu Kang.
Netherrealm Studios has been slowly teasing out the members of the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, with Kitana being the latest in a long line. You can read about the whole roster here if you are struggling to keep track. The studio states fans should stay tuned to its social media channels to catch the “Kombat Kast” this week, which will show off new character Kitana. Netherrealm Studios previous reveal came in the form of a character named Cetrion, an elemental-based fighter.
The anticipation for the upcoming installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise is high following the success of Mortal Kombat 10. Mortal Kombat 10 is the highest selling entry in the series thus far, reaching 11 million sales earlier this month.
Mortal Kombat creative director Ed Boon followed April Fool’s Day last week with some interesting comments about potential crossovers. The series co-creator joked that if there is another Mortal Kombat movie that Raiden will take up the mantle of DC character Shazam. Boon then speculated on the possibility of Netherrealm Studios creating a Marvel vs DC fighting game, rather than Injustice 3.
