Borderlands 3 has been announced at last, and it’s coming in September this year. Players around the world will be happy to sink back into the returning king of co-op loot shooters again with their friends, but what about single-player gamers with unstable internet connections? People who can’t play online all the time? Will it be possible to play Borderlands 3 offline, and if so, what can you do in it? We now know the answer.
Will there be a Borderlands 3 offline mode?
It’s easy to joke about having an offline mode in such a predominantly co-op and team-based game such as Borderlands. Taking on enemies, completing quests, driving over the wasteland, finding loot, it’s all better with friends, or at least other people. But what about people who don’t have an internet connection, unlikely as that may seem in 2019? Or simply have an unreliable internet connection, and don’t want to risk dropping out of a game? Or perhaps an ISP that charges a lot per data used, so wherever possible you’d prefer to play Borderlands 3 offline?
Whatever your reasons, the good news is that yes, like all previous Borderlands games, Borderlands 3 is playable offline. This was confirmed (or at least, heavily hinted at) by Randy Varnell, Managing Producer of Narrative for Gearbox, over on Twitter. So that’s good news.

What will you be able to do offline?
Obviously, the one thing you won’t be able to do is play anything over the internet, such as co-op or anything with your friends. However, the good news is that you can still play local co-op in split-screen, which will be available when the game launches in September. Alternatively, you can play Borderlands 3 single-player all you want. It’s not quite as fun as playing in co-op, but it’s still a totally valid way to play the game. And get good loot, of course.
