MediEvil remake release date revealed during State of Play

The MediEvil remake release date has been revealed as October 25, 2019, with it being announced during the PlayStation State of Play. The game is set to launch on the PS4, with it being developed by Other Ocean Interactive and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The game will be a full remake of the popular 1998 game, which released on the original PlayStation. Like the first game, it is going to be an action-adventure hash and slash adventure. The original game was developed by the now-defunct SCE Cambridge Studio, with it placing players in the role of skeletal protagonist Sir Daniel Fortesque. The game received ‘PlayStation Platinum’ status in Europe, indicating that it had sold over 400,000 copies. It received a sequel in 2000, and was re-released on the PlayStation Network in 2007.

MediEvil will be the latest in a series of remakes of popular mascot-led games, after the likes of the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. While MediEvil never quite enjoyed the level of popularity as those two properties, it still had plenty of admirers who will be happy to see Other Ocean Interaction picking up the reins from SCE Cambridge.

The release date was revealed during a brand new gameplay reveal trailer, which showcased more of what players can expect to see when the MediEvil Remake releases later this year. The PlayStation State of Play contained a few exciting announcements, including a brand new Final Fantasy 7 Remake teaser trailer and the reveal of Predator Hunting Grounds. This was only the second PlayStation State of Play presentation, with the first largely focusing on upcoming games for the PlayStation VR headset. During today’s State of Play, the company spotlighted games that it has previously announced.
