During the recent Microsoft vs. Federal Trade Commission court hearings, it’s been reported by the Xbox company that Sony is set to release a slim version of its PS5 console sometime in 2023.
Microsoft even details the price
The information comes from a legal document obtained during the FTC court case (via Exputer). At more than 70 pages, it’s quite a lengthy read, but the bit that’s pertinent in this case is on page 45.
On lines nine and 10, it states that Sony is “expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year,” at least according to Microsoft. The information goes on to say that it will be priced at $399.99, which is the same price as the Digital Edition of the PS5.
It’s already been speculated that Sony will release a slim edition of the PS5 console at some point, but the claim in this document seems to all but confirm it, especially seeing as it mentions how much it’s likely to cost.
The case between Microsoft and the FTC over the former’s acquisition attempt of Activision is now over. The details of the hearings will be judged, and a decision will be made about whether the $68.7 billion merger between the tech giant and the Call of Duty developer should go ahead.
At the time of writing, Sony has not responded to what’s been said in the report about the PS5 Slim. Suffice it to say, many of you will be keeping a close eye on developments, especially considering many of us have been anticipating a new PS5 model for some time now.
