Helldivers 2: soldiers head into battle over a sandy landscape.

Helldivers 2 Sales Numbers Pass Impressive Milestone

Helldivers 2 sales have no doubt been pretty good since day one. Despite the recent backlash that nearly tanked the reputation of Arrowhead Games Studios‘ title, the tactical third-person shooter has been one of the PS5‘s strongest releases.

More “Helldivers than there are Swedes”

Eloquently put in a recent post on X, the Creative Director of Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, has said the game has now sold over 12 million units. That’s according to the latest Sony earnings call.

Pilestedt goes on to say what a “massive achievement” it’s been for the studio, while also offering a “massive thank you to the community” for the continued support. According to a report from Eurogamer, Helldivers 2 is now the fastest-selling PlayStation release of all time.

Despite having such a dedicated following and a decent reputation, the game was mired in controversy recently when Sony announced it would reintroduce PSN integration for PC players.

This was a move that was felt throughout the community, as thousands of fans took to Steam to review bomb the game. At its lowest, the score was showing as “mostly negative.” Fortunately, Sony backpedaled on the idea and at the time of writing, the game is now showing as “mixed” on PC.

Released in February of this year, Helldivers 2 tasks players with joining the “fight for freedom across a hostile galaxy in a fast, frantic, and ferocious” shooter. It quickly gained a significant following, evidenced by 12 million copies being sold in that time.

To add to this, Arrowhead recently released the game’s latest update. Patch 1.000.304 serves to fix a number of crashes, including one that would occur in the loadout screen and a rare one when players transitioned to and from the ship.

Helldivers 2 sales are mighty impressive, even for a game that’s got the backing of Sony. Currently, it’s maintaining its position in the top ten on Steam’s Top Sellers list, which puts it ahead of the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Fallout 76.
