Team Sonic Racing sales have it debuting at #1 on UK charts

Team Sonic Racing sales must have done pretty well, as the latest kart racing game featuring adorable video game mascots has debuted at the #1 position on the UK physical game charts. It’s done well enough that it’s kept survival game/Sons of Anarchy (but with zombies!) simulator Days Gone down at the number two spot. Additionally, Rage 2 has plummeted down several places to #4 on the list.

If you weren’t aware, Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the many franchises that has had its own game in the kart-racing subgenre. One might ask why exactly The Fastest Thing Alive needs to drive around in a car when he could easily outrun any of these plebs on foot, but that kind of question is just as confusing to think about as why he isn’t wearing pants. Nonetheless, previous Sega-themed entries in the genre have had enough momentum to warrant a new title and Team Sonic Racing sales have opened up at #1 on the UK charts.

The premiere of Team Sonic Racing has knocked Days Gone down to the number two spot with some other shuffling about in the top ten. Here are this week’s standings:

  1. Team Sonic Racing
  2. Days Gone
  3. FIFA 19
  4. Rage 2
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2
  6. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
  7. Mortal Kombat 11
  8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  9. Grand Theft Auto V
  10. Forza Horizon 4

Notably, two other racing games occupy the top ten, including Team Sonic Racing’s strongest competitor Mario Kart 8 DeluxeForza Horizon 4 is still somehow hanging on to a position in the Top 10. Grand Theft Auto V, while arguably not solely a racing game, certainly has enough racing content in GTA Online to make it a worthwhile purchase if that’s what you’re looking for.

Many games debut at #1 on the charts, but the true test of time is whether or not they can hold the position for longer than the first week. It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Team Sonic Racing sales can keep space to keep it at the head of the charts (much less in the top ten), especially with two competing racing games still going strong years after their initial release. Heck, Rage 2 has already dropped to #4 after debuting at #1 last week, so Sonic and his friends are certainly going to have a tough fight ahead of them. You can do your best to figure out why the heck Sonic is driving a car by checking out the game’s official website.
