Mario Kart has been a staple of Nintendo products for decades, with the first iteration released for the SNES in 1992. However, as beloved as the classic racing series is, the deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 has finally dropped off the top 20.
It’s been there for over six years
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch has been flying high for a whopping 78 months, according to a report from Gamesindustry.biz. But as recently as October, the game is nowhere to be seen in this particular sales chart.
While Mario Kart 8 originally came out in 2014, Deluxe was released in April 2017 but has been pushed out by other titles. As of October 28, we’ve seen a slew of new releases rank up the charts, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.
Despite the onslaught of layoffs that have plagued the industry this year, 2023 has been a pretty successful time for video game launches. We finally got our hands on Starfield, as well as new entries from Baldur’s Gate, Diablo, and Zelda.
It should be said that just because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has fallen off the top 20 sales chart doesn’t mean it’s not still a popular choice for Nintendo Switch players. In fact, Mario games in general are still enjoying a great amount of success almost 40 years after the world was introduced to the dungaree-wearing plumber.
With a Metacritic score of 92, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a critically acclaimed entry in the iconic franchise, and no doubt subsequent installments will prove just as popular.
