From seemingly nowhere, Jumanji The Video Game has been announced. Developed by Outright Games and Funsolve, the upcoming title is due to be released on November 15, and it will be available to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
A teaser trailer for Jumanji The Video Game dropped online on Tuesday, June 4, but offered little information on what the game will be about. Starting with a classic Jumanji inspired riddle, the footage shows the rebooted franchise’s four main characters dropping into a jungle setting expertly or, wll, not so expertly.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin “Mouse Finbar, and Professor Sheldon “Shelley” Oberon are all present in the game. This almost certainly implies that this will be a tie-in to the sequel movie, which is due to land in cinemas on December 13.
Judging by the fact that Dwayne Johnson’s, Jack Black’s, Kevin Hart’s, and Karen Gillan’s avatars are all in the game, it’s likely that this will be a co-operative affair. Whether this title features a drop in, drop out mechanic, a single-player option with three AI characters, or supports online multiplayer remains to be seen.
There’s no indication that any of the above four actors will voice their own characters either, though we suspect that they won’t. If anything, this tie-in game looks like it’ll merely offer up a new story ahead of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s sequel release date. Until there’s more information about what exactly it’ll be about, however, we can only speculate on how this game will tie into the previous movie and its follow-up.
Jumanji The Video Game will be powered by the Unreal engine and appears to be the biggest game that Outright Games will have developed. The developer has a knack for making games from other entertainment properties, such as Adventure Time, so Jumanji The Video Game looks to be in safe hands.
