Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4

Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4 and Switch versions are coming

Fans of Japanese MMORPGs got some happy news at this year’s E3 and it just got a little better: it seems that Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions are going to be coming in the near future, possibly after an Xbox One timed exclusive. The news was revealed by Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Gaming Phil Spencer during a conversation on Giant Bomb, surprising fans that were already happy to see this excellent MMORPG finally make its was west as an official release.

Jack of All Controllers reports that Phil Spencer made the announcement in an off-the-cuff comment during a conversation with Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann. Fans have been waiting nearly seven years for the game to make its way to the West, and now it seems that we’ll be getting a Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4 release alongside the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions.

“It was so cool to have them on our stage and to be able to work with them,” said Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Gaming Phil Spencer on Giant Bomb. “And yes, like, it will end up on all platforms.”

Phantasy Star Online 2 originally released for the PC in Japan in 2012 followed by a PlayStation Vita release in 2013, a PlayStation 4 release in 2016, and a Nintendo Switch release in 2018. A companion game called Phantasy Start Online 2es was launched on Android and iOS in 2014 in Japan. The Xbox One version of the game was never developed in Japan, likely due to that console’s weaker popularity in that country.

We can’t say for sure when we’ll be getting the Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions. The Xbox One and PC releases are slated for Spring 2020, but Xbox may have secured a timed exclusive so there could be a bit of a wait for the other platforms. We’re sure to hear more news as we get closer to its release date next year.
