Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign will please fans, according to Deadpool director

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is marching ever forward towards its delayed 2020 release, whether fans want it to or not. After the film’s trailer showcased both “a new speed of hero” as well as one of the most criticized movie designs of a classic beloved character ever, the movie was delayed out of this year entirely to redesign Sonic the Hedgehog. While this redesign has not yet been revealed or even leaked to the public, the Sonic movie’s producer Tim Miller has seen it, and seems to think that fans will like it.

Tim Miller, who also directed of Deadpool and will direct this year’s Terminator: Dark Fate, spoke to Variety about his upcoming visit to Comic-Con and the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. In particular, Variety asked about the redesign, and Miller explained why it was important. “This is a franchise, and it has to be great,” he said. Miller and director Jeff Fowler apparently agreed with fans about the previous design. “The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.”

Miller explained his advice for Fowler.

“When the s–t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘the most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f–ked up.” He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that,” he said.

Variety then asked if Miller had the redesign of Sonic for the movie had been finalized yet and if he seen it, and he confirmed that he had and it was good news. “In fact I have,” he said, simply. “And I think the fans will be pleased.”

There’s no word yet of when the redesign of Sonic will be revealed, or when we’ll be getting a revised trailer. As for the movie, it’s currently down for a release date of February 14, 2020.
