What are the Sonic 2 box office results so far?

In its opening week, the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie has made over $25 million in 31 international markets. According to Deadline, it was the No. 1 movie in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, and UK (Whew!). Altogether, the film’s sales has improved 2% over the first Sonic film for the same period.

For the Wednesday premiere and Thursday preview in the US, the Sonic 2 movie made just over $6 million with it expected to make $50 million over this coming weekend. Carrying this momentum, the film is on track to take the top spot in other countries where it has yet to make a debut such as Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Japan.

Paramount has already announced that the third film in the Sonic the Hedgehog series is on the way, in addition to a live-action TV series starring Knuckles, as voiced by Idris Elba. Sega Corporation CEO Haruki Satomi said in a press release that the company wishes “to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise” with its partnership with Paramount.

It’s unknown whether Knuckles will be leaving the film series or if Sonic and Tails will be making cameos in the TV series. It’s also unclear whether Jim Carrey will continue his role as Dr. Robotnik in the third film as he has decided to take a break from acting.

In other news, Halo Infinite’s Season 2 has been given a release date and comes with a new Battle Pass and new multiplayer modes like Last Spartan Standing, and From Software has quietly removed some mentions of online multiplayer from Dark Souls Steam pages.
