Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville

Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville trademarked by EA

Last Friday, Electronic Arts filed a trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the name Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville. This is probably the definitive title for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 3, a new franchise shooter in development at PopCap Games.

As spotted by Wccftech, the trademark application reveals that it is for a “Computer game software; Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; Video game software.”

Electronic Arts isn’t exactly doing the greatest job at keeping this game under secrecy. Less than a month ago, the name Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville was sighted for the first time, as a description briefly appeared at the official website before being pulled for good. However, not before someone took a screengrab and shared it with the world on Reddit.

The Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville description read as follows:

“Kick some grass in Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville, the wackiest shooter yet! Unearth 20 fully customizable character classes, one social region, three free-roam regions, nine PvP modes, including 4v4 Battle Arena and more!”

Those are some crucial details, but we know more about it thanks to the Plants vs Zombies Picnic leak. The ongoing PS4 and Xbox One alpha revealed the introduction of a battle royale mode called Soil Survivors, although there is no info on the number of simultaneous players yet.

This isn’t the only Plants vs. Zombies game in the works at PopCap Games. A free-to-play Plants vs. Zombies 3 game is in development for Android and iOS devices, with a pre-alpha build of the game being available for a limited number of players in July. Unlike Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville, which is a pure shooter in the tradition of the previous games, Plants vs. Zombies 3 builds on the successful tactical template that brought the Plant vs. Zombies name to the spotlight.
