Plants vs Zombies 3 Release Date News | Supported platforms and how to get into alpha

Seemingly out of the blue, EA and PopCap released a Plants vs Zombies 3 pre-alpha on Android devices via the Google Play Store. The game is in exceedingly early days, but that won’t stop all the questions such as “when is the Plants vs Zombies 3 release date?” “What are the Plants vs Zombies 3 supported platforms?” and “how to get into the Plants vs Zombies 3 alpha?” Thankfully, we’re here to answer all of these questions as best we can. Read on for all the current Plants vs Zombies 3 details, rumors, speculation, and to find out what we know about the Plants vs Zombies 3 release date news.

Plants vs Zombies 3 Release Date News

As you’ll find out more towards the end of this article, Plants vs Zombies 3 is out now on Android devices in selected countries as a pre-alpha game. Unfortunately, there has been no official word on a release date for the finished game as of writing. There has been no official Plants vs Zombies 3 release date news.

We do know that the pre-alpha release is building towards the full release of the game, however. In its final product, it will feature micro-transactions. EA currently is “saving a lot more for later,” according to the game’s Google Store page. As far as an actual release date goes, however, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see it launch by the end of 2019. To be more cautious, however, we’d guess the Plants vs Zombies 3 release date window to be somewhere between winter 2019-summer 2020.

Plants vs Zombies 3 Supported Platforms

Plants vs Zombies 3 Release Date News

Android

Currently, we can assume that the full release of Plants vs Zombies 3 will be on Android, at least. As of writing, the free-to-play pre-alpha build of the game is available to download on Android devices in certain areas of the world only (it’s currently available in the U.S.) As the game is playable on Android 6.0 Marshmallow devices already (albeit in an early form), we can safely assume that Plants vs Zombies 3 will release on Android.

iOS

Despite the fact that the game’s pre-alpha is only currently on Android, we can assume that Plants vs Zombies 3 will also release on iOS. Both Plants vs Zombies and Plants vs Zombies 2 It’s About Time released on iOS. Unless Google has exclusivity rights, we think Plants vs Zombies 3 will release on iOS.

PC

Although the original Plants vs Zombies released on PC, its sequel did not. This doesn’t mean that Plants vs Zombies 3 won’t release on PC, however. A potential Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 3 seems more likely here. We’ll have to wait and see with this one, though, it could happen.

PS4

We never saw Plants vs Zombies 2 on PS4, and it seems unlikely that we’ll see Plants vs Zombies 3 PS4, either. Stranger things have happened, but a Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 3 release would be more likely.

Xbox One

Again, we think it’d be unlikely to see a Plants vs Zombies 3 Xbox One release. The original made its way onto Xbox Live Arcade, but its sequel never did. It could happen, but it seems unlikely.

Nintendo Switch

The Switch could be a little more appealing to EA and PopCap than the other consoles thanks to its portable nature here. None of the other Plants vs Zombies games have made their way onto the hybrid machine, however. Based on this, we do think that a Plants vs Zombies 3 Nintendo Switch port seems unlikely. It could happen, of course.

How to get into the Plants vs Zombies 3 Alpha

Plants vs Zombies 3 Release Date News

As stated at the beginning of this guide, Plants vs Zombies 3 is available to download and play right now in a pre-alpha format. As of writing, the free-to-play pre-alpha sign up is exceedingly limited, however. Only a handful of countries are involved in the pre-alpha, for example. Those of you living in the U.K. cannot take part in the pre-alpha, but you can (if you’re lucky) download and play the early build of Plants vs Zombies right now if you live in the U.S.

Unfortunately, the limited pre-alpha is only available to download on Android, and there is currently no word on an iOS version. Simply follow this link to the Plants vs Zombies 3 Google Play Store page to download and play. There are only a limited number of spots available to get into the Plants vs Zombies 3 alpha, too. If you miss out on your chance to take part in the pre-alpha, head back each day and try again until you get in. Availability batches are coming in phases every day, it seems. The only hardware restrictions seem to be that you need an Android 6.0 Marshmallow device or up.
