Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Switch Leader

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Switch Leader | How to swap main Pokemon

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX just launched a free demo on the Nintendo Switch eShop, allowing fans of cute creatures battling to get a taster of the game before its full release in March. When starting out the adventure and choosing your main protagonist Pokemon, alongside their primary companion, one of the first questions that may come to mind is whether or not you can switch between controlling both party members. In this guide, we’ve got your back; here’s everything you need to know about the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX switch leader mechanic.

How to switch leader in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX

As you navigate through the world of Mystery Dungeon DX on Nintendo Switch, your party Pokemon will automatically stay right on the hero’s tail (perhaps literally, dependant on your chosen starter). You indirectly control their movement in the process, but it’s possible to take direct controls of any partners simply by pressing the “+” button on your controller.

Oddly, the function is annotated as “??????” on the in-game “Dungeon controls” screen, which may be the cause of some confusion. Its purpose is no mystery, however, as it’ll switch your lead Pokemon and afford you some gameplay advantages in the process.

When moving through randomized Mystery Dungeons, the Pokemon you control will gradually become more and more hungry as their “Belly” gauge depletes. It can be replenished with food items, but if you don’t have any or would rather save them for a later rescue mission, swapping to a partner Pokemon will give you another full Belly to continue adventuring on.

Of course, it’s also a fun way to take direct control of a variety of different Pokemon. After being a Pokemon Trainer in the mainline games, the Mystery Dungeon series is a great way to get a more personal gameplay experience by controlling Pokemon themselves.
