How to Save in Doom Eternal | Is there autosave?

Nobody enjoys losing progress or being forced to spend long periods of time playing before being able to save. Due to that fact, prior to picking up Doom Eternal, you might be curious to know how the in-game save system works. Look no further, as this guide on how to save in Doom Eternal has you covered.

Here’s what you need to know about manual save and autosave functionality in Bethesda and id Software’s Doom Eternal on PC, Stadia, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

How does saving work in Doom Eternal?

Unlike the original Doom games, Doom Eternal features most of the modern bells and whistles you’d expect when it comes to saving your progress. Autosaving is very much present, and will regularly store your game progress throughout the course of any given level. This means you can dip in and out of Eternal if you don’t have much gaming time to spare without worrying about your efforts going to waste.

For those that appreciate the added layer of security offered by a manual save system, unfortunately, there is no Doom Eternal manual saving. Not in the traditional sense, anyway, though it’s worth noting that you can select a “Save and Exit” option at the conclusion of each mission. Taking advantage of this feature will also position you nicely to resume play from the beginning of a level, rather than potentially finding yourself lost in the middle of a platforming section or puzzle.

If you share an account or profile with others, you’ll be glad to know that there are three Doom Eternal save slots available. This means that three players can have their progress tracked on any single profile, or, of course, that one player can run up to three separate campaigns.
