Or is Minecraft Dungeons free to play? Stick with this guide to learn everything you need to know about the isometric Minecraft RPG’s pricing model.

Will Minecraft Dungeons be free?

Minecraft Dungeons free to play

For years now, a section of Minecraft players has been hoping for additional games from the beloved property. Not counting Telltale Games’ Minecraft: Story Mode, Dungeons is the first official project to build upon the Minecraft video game franchise while adopting a new genre. Although diving into a new gameplay experience might sound risky — a risk that being free-to-play could mitigate — Minecraft Dungeons is not a free game.

ALSO: Minecraft Dungeons is an accessible Diablo-like that is perfect for co-op

Whether you own the original Minecraft or not, Minecraft Dungeons will not be available as a free download on any of the supported platforms. Vanilla Minecraft Dungeons will cost $19.99, while the Hero Edition will set you back $29.99. If you’re an active Xbox Game Pass subscriber for console or PC, however, the game can be played at no additional cost.

Minecraft Dungeons Hero Edition content

    • Hero Pass:
      • Hero Cape.

The two future DLC packs have not yet been detailed at the time of writing. Which version of Minecraft Dungeons you choose to purchase will really depend on how much you want the listed cosmetics.

While you’ll definitely need to buy Minecraft Dungeons on PS4 and Nintendo Switch, it can be played at no additional cost on both PC and Xbox One if you already have a premium Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
