Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 reveals more demon-slaying action

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 has been announced as a brand-new 8-bit compliment to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. This all-new adventure in the Bloodstained universe brings back the retro style of the first Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and features all of the things people love about the classic Castlevania games.

The announcement was made via the Inti Creates Twitter account as part of the New Game+ Expo. A sequel to the classically-styled platformer wasn’t exactly expected, so it certainly makes for a nice surprise for players to enjoy.

As with the previous game, Zangetsu will be serving as the main character for this throwback platformer. He won’t be alone this time, though — he’ll be joined by three new characters! Who are the new characters in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2?

  • Dominique – An exorcist who wields a spear.
  • Robert – A sharpshooter with a variety of firearms, specializing in ranged combat.
  • Hachi – A corgi who commands a massive magical mech that kind of looks like a train. No, really.

As with the previous entry, this new game will essentially follow the gameplay style of Castlevania 3 on the NES. Players will be able to move through multiple routes as they progress to the end of the game, adding a layer of variety and replayability. Adding to the variety is the option to select from four different characters in the game.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 further grows the world of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a game with Castlevania-style gameplay that was successfully Kickstarted by Koji Igarashi. Igarashi is a game developer with nearly 30 years of experience in the industry; while he has worked on a variety of titles, the vast majority of his career has been spent on the Castlevania franchise. One of the highlights of his career is serving as the Assistant Director, Programmer, and Scenario Writer for the legendary Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

A sequel to the 8-bit companion was entirely unexpected, so this is sure to be a welcome surprise for Castlevania and Bloodstained fans! The developers say that it will be launching soon for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. No price has been announced, but it will probably be close to the $9.99 price point for the first Curse of the Moon game.
